While I was clearing out The Gloryhole (AKA built-in cupboard above stairs) of all the junk/important stuff thats gathered there over the last 4 years I came across a little pile of old Smash Hits magazines that had somehow survived being thrown out in one of my decluttering episodes! I was having a giggle at the clothes & reminiscing (lamenting?) the good old days.
The mags included lyrics to the latest singles, details of their albums & tours aswell as some posters in the middle & back page. One such poster was a giant one of Adam Ant my hero!!
(see further down)
L-R back row Hazel O'Connor, Classix Nouveaux & Kim Wilde
bottom row Dexys Midnight Runners (my mate Kevin 3rd right played the violin!) & Duran Duran
Toyah Wilcox was a crazy woman but I loved her :) The hair & makeup was always amazing.
How I adored this man. My very own Prince Charming xx
This is the giant poster ....... it may have to go on the wall in my new craft room :)
Blondie & Siouxie were my heroes too ......... must have been the hairstyles!!
There were other artists of course........
There were other artists of course........
So many names that have almost been forgotten unless you are a devoted fan.
Tenpole Tudor.......Soft Cell......Altered Images......... BowWowWow
.....Ultravox.......Visage......Japan.......... Depeche Mode...... I could go on!!
The worst thing about the discovery of the magazines?
Reading the issue dates of 1981 & 1982.
THIRTY YEARS AGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope you enjoyed my little trip to the past.
Bye for now xx
Ooh, I remember some of these issues! I was always a big Banshees fan and my sister had a Tenpole Tudor fixation. I have really enjoyed looking at your photos Heather - I can't thank you enough for sharing them :)
ReplyDeleteOMG that was soooo much fun thank you!! I used to buy Smash Hits too..and before that Look In magazine....I bought Jackie magazine and Mizz magazine too and for a while one called Suzy.....

Oh, I remember Smash Hits! I read them in a (very) slightly different era though - but thanks for bringing back those memories :-)
ReplyDeleteaahh the memories - I used to love Smash Hits, I really got into around 1985/6 and would eagerly scour it for lyrics to songs by my favourite bands. At that time it would have been a-ha! Thanks for the memories!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find-hope you are going to keep them!!
